Giving Back

In giving I believe we grow.

Giving back is something which has been instilled in me since I was a child.

My parents have volunteered and given of their time to community and wider society throughout their lives. Having lived with this example I realised the value of giving back very early.

Translating this into my work I have ensure I am always involved in a project I’m giving back to through the use of my expertise. I have given my time over the last fifteen years to the following projects & organisations:

  • Renville Sports Grounds

  • Damian Browne Solo Atlantic Row benefitting MADRA, Médecins Sans Frontières & Strong Roots Foundation School Rwanda

  • HopeSpace

  • Alan Kerins Projects

  • Galway Arts Festival

  • ACT for Meningitis

  • Maree Community Development Association

  • MADRA

Renville Sports Ground

Over the last eight years I have been part of the Management Committee for Renville Sports Ground.  The planned €8 million centre of excellence for Oranmore-Maree GAA One Club will be a leading sports facility in the West of Ireland. Providing facilities and space for the growing number of 1800 children and adult club members, the grounds will carry through the grassroots ethos of the GAA, one of the world’s largest voluntary sports organisations.

The positive impact and benefits of sport and community on society is what drives me to be part of the team to deliver the development. To date relentless work by the Oranmore-Maree GAA One Club and Renville Sports Ground Management Committee has seen the development be awarded a €2.52 million Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) grant by The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

CASE STUDY

It is planned that ultimately the Renville Sports Ground will include: one full size 4G pitch; three full size sand based grass pitches; three training & warm up areas; a club pavilion with multiple changing rooms; ball wall; a community facilities area; secure low level lit 2km community walking/ running track; a public children’s playground area; preservation of a ringfort as a local heritage & educational site and a community parking area with accessible public toilets and baby changing facilities which will help further service Renville Park and Graveyard.

Wheelchair access is a priority for the project with inclusion at the core of all plans. A Sensory Garden designed as part of Renville Sports Ground will support both learning development and mental health management for members of the community.

Mentorship

I believe in paying forward the kindness visited onto me by others when it comes to career and industry advice.  I have had the privilege of being given time by renowned global business leaders and people with a depth of wisdom in business that is rare.

Mentoring others is part of creating and passing on solid business lessons.  I have had the pleasure of mentoring a number of outstanding people throughout my career.

Seeing them soar is the reward.
